Short-term and long-term observation on 250 migraineurs treated by the therapy of acupuncture combined with herbs
Background: Migraine is a neurovascular headache with recurrent attack and long history. It is quite difficult in clinic for the treatment of migraine, especially for healing migraine attack The author has treated migraineurs with Point-injection, acupuncture combined with herbs in special migraine clinic ofZhe-jiang T. CMCollege, and meantime, made a full observation in short-term and long-term, and recicved satisfied results. Method: 1, Items ofobservation: Thc items ofobservation were stressed mainly on clinical manifestations because there were no specific items of observation in clinic. The author adopted self-designed” the judgement of migraine intensity 2, Therapeutic method: (1) Point-injection and acupuncture: 10% Dang-gui soltrtion was injected in Nei-guan ( P. 6 ), 2ml/point, with one side or both sides. Acupoints were selected according to differentiations. (2) Herbs: Self-designed migraine formula was adopted. (3)Treatment court: For point-injection and acupuncture, 12 treatments were regarded as one course, and 7 days interval remained between courses; for herbs, t month as one course. Total courses were limited within 6 courses. Results: Among short-term results: the recovery: 144 cases (57.6%), the obviously improved: 94(37.6%), the effective: t2(4.8%),no effect: 0(0%), total effective rate: 100%; long-term results: the recovery: 119 cases (47.6%), the obviously improved: 104(41.6%), the effective: 18(7.2%),no effects 9(3.6%), total effective rate:96.4% Discussion: 1) The author considered that the onset of migraine, in the view of T.C.M, was closely related to” blood stasis” and deficiency” throughout more than ten years study on migraine and detailed clinical observation arnd records. The key point for treatment of migraine, besides treatment for symptoms, should be emphasized on removing blood stasis and reinforcing deficiency. 2) Point-injection and acupuncture were applied to control acute migraine attack for treating the branch, and herbs to regulate pathogenic conditions of whole body( blood stasis and deficiency) for the root The combination of these both for the treatment of not only the branch but the root was made to heal migraine. 3) The therapy was applied to treat migraine and the total effective rate in short term was 100%, the recovery: 576%, the total effective rate in long term: 96.4%. the recovery: 47.6%. There were no statistic significance between these two rates. This indicated that the therapeutic effects of this therapy was stable in short and long term.
