Exceptional thermal stability of ultrafine-grained long-period stacking ordered Mg alloy
The hierarchical long-period stacking ordered(LPSO)architecture composed mainly of an ultrafine-grained LPSO matrix has been demonstrated to be a feasible design strategy for achieving ultra-strong Mg alloys.Here,we report an exceptional thermal stability of the ultra-strong ultrafine-grained LPSO alloy.The ultrafine-grained LPSO alloy shows limited grain growth up to 450℃(~0.78Tm,where Tm is the melting point of pure Mg)for 100 h.Grain boundary(GB)migration is observed to be kineti-cally inhibited by the high-density nanoparticles(NPs)located at the GBs.
