'Search, and 'evaluation' are the two cognitive dimensions of involvement closely dependent on attention to form. 'Search' refers to the attempt to find the meaning of an unknown L2 word (for example by using a dictionary or asking a teacher) and 'evaluation' entails the comparison of a given word with other words (or one of its meanings with its other meanings) in order to see if it fits the context (Hulstijn and Laufer ibid.: 543).
