Video standards have beend ahered to since the being of video. These standards allow for content creators, broadcasters, and viewers to watch the content ”as the creator intended”. If each step in the video workflow is not properly setup (ie: calibrated), the director”s intention will be lost due to changing of the video signal by potential loss of white levels (clippin), black levels (crushing), or incorrect color rendition.
