IntroductionPruritus is defined as an unpleasant sensation that evokes a desire to scratch. According to its duration, pruritus can be classified as acute or chronic, with the latter defined as pruritus lasting longer than 6 weeks.1 Chronic itch is a persistent, burdensome condition with a serious unmet clinical need. The pathophysiology of chronic itch differs considerably from that of acute itch.
