EpCAM-directed immunotherapy:a novel treatment opportunity for patients with pancreatic cancer Pancreatic cancer is notorious for its early metastasis and natural resistance to conventional chemotherapy and radiation. However,a recent study by Heeschen and colleagues provides new hope for these patients. The authors reported that epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM; CD326)-directed immunotherapy effectively eliminates circulating and/or isolated pancreatic cancer stem cells (CSCs) and may be a novel treatment strategy to improve the survival of patients with pancreatic cancer.
