Acknowledgements Many people contributed to the planning and establishment of the NASGLP. We would like to thank all the pardeipants in the 2002, 2003, 2004. and 2006 workshops that were so instrumental in shaping the project. A special thank you is extended to Harvey Thorleifson, State Geologist for Minnesota, for his inwduahle advice in the design of the continental scale pilot studies and for his constant encouragement to project members from all three countries. We also thank the University of California, Davis, for hosting the 2004 workshop to design the pilot phase of the project. The conterminous U. S. portion of the project could not have been completed without the unflagging support of Kate Johnson, Coordinator for the USGS Mineral Resources Program from 1999 - 2011
